We did a total gut job on the kitchen this year.  What was once a small dark and cramped little galley has been reborn to reveal the shiny star inside.  Knocking out a couple of walls and removing that ugly island made the room so spacious it’s hard to believe we lived with it for so long.  It really looks like a new house with the addition of upgraded cabinets, drawers with soft closures, shiny new herringbone backsplash with a touch of metallic bling, with the latest hardware to match.

And the best part is that everything was done on time and under budget.  We really did our homework on this one.  No one touched a nail or pulled down a tile until we were sure we had checked out the contractor, talked to our insurance, discussed our plans with our realtor and had the money in the bank.  And that was just for starters.  We also relied on the experts at Home Depot for advice on a lot of issues that cropped up when we were trying to match finishes, order material and parts.

We were really glad we found Groupons for deals at Home Depot because they saved us a lot of money.  We saved 40% off building materials, hundreds of dollars off appliances, as got up to 60% off selected merchandise, along with free shipping.  And everything was so easy to do.  We just used our smart phones to click on the deals we wanted and in some cases, we didn’t even leave the house.  The staff was always available to answer our questions, and we got just what we ordered every time.  We even found great holiday gifts for our friends and family in the home and garden section.  We would never have thought of shopping Home Depot but it made total sense when we counted up all the money and time we saved.

So much has changed for us this year we can hardly count all the blessings.  We have the kitchen of our dreams, all decked out with new appliances, flooring, lighting dishware, serveware, pots and pans.  But one thing’s the same.  My abuelita’s in the kitchen, steaming tamales in her favorite old pot for the whole family to eat on Christmas day.
